Volunteers

Volunteers are a core part of the Interdisciplinary Team which serves our patients and their families. Medicare mandates that 5% of a hospice program’s budget revenue is provided through volunteer hours. VNA orients our volunteers to the history and mission of the agency, the philosophy of hospice and palliative care, and the duties and responsibilities of volunteer work for our agency.

Our volunteers receive ongoing educational opportunities through meetings, conferences and day to day interaction with our hospice team. We ask you, the volunteer, to make a commitment to our agency. We emphasize that no matter how small you feel your contribution is, you are greatly appreciated and valued by those you serve: VNA, our patients, and their families.

How do you become a volunteer?

Call Kathy Coyne, Volunteer Coordinator, at 383-5180.

What can you do to help as a volunteer? You may:

  • provide companionship to patients in their home or our Inpatient Unit.
  • provide transportation.
  • perform clerical work, such as answer phones and filing.
  • serve as a receptionist in our Inpatient Unit.
  • assist patients and their families in our Inpatient Unit.
  • offer a smile, listen, hold a hand.

As our hospice and home health programs continue to grow, we always have a need for new volunteers to supplement our compassionate and quality care.
